My Interaction with “Rumi” The Mystic.

One day i was listening to the coldplay with my earphones on.

And after scientist song ended, suddenly the tittle track called “ kaleidoscope” from the kaleidoscope album of Coldplay started playing. 

The lyrics were so soothing and sort outed already ,just lureed me into the deep thinking State of mind.

Lyrics were,

“This being human is a guest house
Every morning a new arrival

A joy, a depression, a meanness
Some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor

Welcome and entertain them all!
Be grateful for whoever comes

Because each has been sent as a guide”

which  made me think about the inspiration behind the album created by coldplay.

I wonder whose thoughts were these/??

So i did some research about the idea behind the making of kaliedoscope.

Surprisingly i found out that, Chris Martin was heavily influenced by the Persian poet called    “ Rumi” , who helped him with the ongoing divorce in his life and the sickness called love.

 

So I rushed to the library next morning in search of “Rumi's” work. I desperately want to read his most important work Mansnavi. But  Unfortunately there was no direct transcription of Rumi available, luckily i found the biography:-

Rumi's Secret: The Life of the Sufi Poet of Love

 by Brad gooch.

His full name was  Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi Known simply as Rumi. I read about Rumi's life and work. And his inspiration towards the Sufism, and the individuals he was influenced with.

While reading his work i found a saying of Rumi,

“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field, I'll meet you there.”

 And after reading it, i wonder that, these are the same lines used in Ranbir Kapoor's starrer “Rockstar” movie. Although that movie was a stupendous piece of art  and especially these lines fascinated me that time but i didn't make any effort to research about them and Which i  regret now, for not doing the research at that time and missing an opportunity to know Rumi before.

According to Rumi, love can be defined by his poem The Meaning of Love  which goes like this:-

THE MEANING OF LOVE

 Both light and shadow

are the dance of Love.

Love has no cause;
it is the astrolabe of God’s secrets.

Lover and Loving are inseparable
and timeless.

Although I may try to describe Love
when I experience it I am speechless.

Although I may try to write about Love
I am rendered helpless;
my pen breaks and the paper slips away
at the ineffable place
where Lover, Loving and Loved are one.

Every moment is made glorious
by the light of Love.

LOVE IS THE AILMENT

According to him,

Love is the transformative force that influences every aspect of Rumi's world and herein lies his appeal and the timelessness of his message:

  “there is an inherent unity in our universe, and love is the key to realising it.

it is for this reason that we have the capacity to love and moreover the need to be loved.”

Who made Rumi? the Mystic Rumi , the enlightened one, the master of rome and so on.

 

Everyone know him as a passionate seeker of love and truth poetry is a treasure of spirituality and wisdom, not much is known about the person behind Rumi's inspiration.

not many know that he wouldn't have been the legend that he is today had he not encountered his mentor, Shams Tabrizi.

When Rumi met  Shams tabrizi, it was a turning point in his life,

Shams tabrizi was a spiritual wanderer and mystic.

Shams was homeless wanderer who looked nothing  like a learned man. Meeting him was the beginning of Rumi's journey towards the passionate search of love and truth.

There are many persons that describe the meeting of Rumi with his guide,

But according to one of the most interesting ones,

Rumi was reading with the huge pile of books by his side when Shams tabrizi passed by him.

He asked Rumi what he was doing, which he gave a nonchalant reply saying :- “something you cannot understand"

After hearing this reply, Shams throw all the books in the nearby pool. But when Rumi picked them up from there,

He Stand surprised, the books were all dry.

When Rumi asked the mysterious man about it, he said:- “this is what you cannot understand.

Rumi and Shams got along, and Shams tabrizi accepted him as his disciple,

The two struck a close friendship 

and from there on, began Rumi's impassioned pursuit for truth and love.

It is said that Rumi was 37 and Shams tabrizi was in 60s when they met.

It's said that Shams only taught Rumi for total of 40 days, and he left konya (the city where rumi live) and flew to Damascus.

Rumi was immensely sad after the departure of his master and close friend who had showed him the path towards the deeper devotion for God and truth, and with whom he had discovered the depths of spirituality. It's also widely believe that Shams was killed by Rumi's youngest son who was jealous of their close companionship.

Rumi couldn't bear the painful separation from his master and poured his emotions through poetry, writing 70,000 verses. He wrote 3,000 poems for Shams.

Expressing his love and devotion for his guide whom he referred to as the bird and the sun showed him the right path.

Rumi's timeline was( 1207-1273 CE)

But most amazing things that he mentioned at that time period just surprised me to some other level.

Its said that Rumi also mentioned the idea of that Earth revolving around the sun. Maybe you remember that Copernicus who is known for his heliocentrism lived much later 1473-1543.

 One of his other interesting thoughts that atom is the copy of the solar system in which we live.

It's just amazing, isn't it?

Rumi's thought and quotes are widely used in today's social media era as , whatsapp status, instagram captions, and Facebook posts.

But people don't know who the real Rumi was and what he seeked.

Well,Let's just appreciate his work for now.

There are some thoughts inspired by Rumi's book The garden of the soul, the heart, and the spirit.

“Do not rely on

 Anything but

 your heart"

Do you know that from any of the body organs Heart generates the strongest electromagnetic field? The heart's field  is many times stronger than the one activated by brain and it can be detected several steps away from our body.

So who has the main word brain or heart?

“what you see,

Ugliness or

Beauty is your

Own reflection”

Life is mirroring all the time. Sometimes we can see it clearly and sometimes not. I believe that humility, understanding and gratitude will always help us to stay on the right way, even if we don't see what is being mirrored at the moment.

“Don't grieve

Over past joys,

 be sure they 

will reappear in

 another form”

Sometimes we want things to remain the way they are but nothing lasts forever. Life's a change and change is a life. Let's be happy from all new joys coming to our life otherwise we remain frozen in the past and the new nice moments will be slipping through our fingers.

“False words

Disturb the

Heart, only truth 

brings peace”

Being honest with yourself brings along huge relief, understanding, inner balance, happiness.

Honesty is not just about telling the truth. It's about being real with yourself and others about who you are.
