The Positive Side of Pandemic.

Everyone knows that this pandemic has brought the negative consequences which will persist long after it is over. So you don't need me to tell you that life is pretty bitter these days.
But even a realist can see rays of hope in today's gloomy circumstances and believe that what we are going through today could eventually have some positive consequences.

You may have already experienced by yourself that there are several positive consequences of this pandemic around you.
And if you not , let me just give you a perspective.

Let's discuss about these silver linings of Pandemic.

Starting with the hottest topic itself
Global warming .

1. The Drastic Slow down of Climate change

This pandemic has brought  the world economy in a coma and stalls it's very progress.
Which results in cutdown of fossil fuel use dramatically with on bonus  reducing the accumulation of atmospheric carbon dioxide, methane and other greenhouse gases. And in result reducing the rate of global warming itself
You may have experienced yourself that skies are visible clearer then normal. And even at night we can  witness the band  of Milky way itself.
Further this pandemic has brought down many businesses and changed our way of doing business these days . We can get a lot of useful work done on zoom and other video conferencing platforms which actually dampen the business travel and cut down the commercial Jet traffic. It has changed our way of doing business and even in future after recovery begins there will be a cutting down of commercial jet traffic because of the flexibility of doing business that we have developed in this time.
We have also seen meat shortages  in the world economy resulting due to the shutdown of slaughterhouse. Which can actually encourage some people to shift to less carnivorous diets and in results it will eventually  improve public health and reduce methane emission by cattle rearing for meat.

Covid-19 won't solve the problem but it has just bought us bit more time to deal with the our problems. It is possible that it could even make things worse either by increasing a false sense of complacency.
But for the moment the present reduction in greenhouse gas emission is the silver lining that we should appreciate.

2. Women leaders changing the game of politics.

Well if you are aware of the world current scenario of corona outbreak and its leading countries and those countries who have successfully handled the pandemic so far then and you may have an idea that the countries or Nations that are led by women have handled the pandemic far better than countries led by men.
That is not to say that some male leaders haven't done very well, but it is striking that New Zealand's Jacinda ardern, Germany's Angela Merkel, Finland's Sanna Marin, and Taiwan's Tsi Ing-wen have outperformed the vast majority of their male counterparts. And in contrast there is far worst responses which have come from the chief executives such as Brazil's Jair Bolsonaro, Britain's Boris Johnson, Russia's Valdimir Putin, and America Donald Trump, each one of them is a poster boy of macho male posturing.
So maybe, just maybe, covid-19 will teach people that a greater role for women in our public life would be both fair and smart. And it would be a step forward for equality and more effective leadership.

3. This pandemic has boosted the concept of localism.

Until the beginning of 2020, it was all about internationalisation and globalisation of business, but right now it's all about staying home inquiring about the health of your neighbours, leaving home only to buy locally and boosting the local community.
This lockdown has inspired family time and local time among the millions of citizens living in the metros of the country. While people are really leaving their homes, if at all, they are spending more time on streaming platforms ,playing board games with their family and spending quality time with their kids.

4. The rejuvenation of wildlife

You may have  also heard about it or some of you may have experienced by yourself that there are sightings of different wild animals in urban streets. Even in my locality I got chance to see a swamp deer roaming around freely.
There are several instances in social media where people are putting videos of these wild animals roaming in the streets of Quasi urban areas.
From the flocks of flamingos to the mountain goat ,bison ,wildcat and even leopard is witnessed by people.
Migratory birds are returning to lakes and water bodies they had once abandoned due to heavy pollution and human intervention.

Nature is healing while people restrict their movement outdoors and vehicle retreats to garage.

5. The crime incidents have become rarer.

There is a sharp drop in crime rates in the capital of India which is also known for the most crime happening City.
The drop in the crime rates correspond to the reduction in the percentage of vehicle thefts, which has given some mental peace to owners of personal and commercial vehicles in this bitter time. A similar drop in crime rates has been also witnessed across other major cities like Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai. The prime minister's decision of complete lockdown and the vigilance by the local law enforcement has contributed significantly to the steep decline in the crime rate in several cities and towns.

6. The resurrection of the primary unit of society. “Family”
The most important of all

This pandemic has brought the the sociological concept of family back into life. In sociology family  is called as the primary unit of the society. Everything that an individual grasp from society, and his perspective towards it somewhere come from this basic unit of social structure.

We never imagined that we would have to be stuck inside for so long. However this time has also given us the opportunity to to make the relationship which we lost with our family. With the fast paced life, we were living, and hardly sat together as a family. The lockdown has given us a chance to go back to the days when family time was most important time of the day.

Sitting together to eat as a family was one of the most important things that we stopped doing. However with the lockdown and all the family members at home the tradition of eating together is back.
Now that we are all eating together we are also talking to our families much more .we are talking about our day how we are feeling and how we are coping with pandemic.

Now you definitely understand your family better after the lockdown. You know much more about them and how  they think. You are also more welcoming to their ideas and thoughts, and naturally tend to get a little less bothered by things you might have otherwise.

Given the lockdown you are unable to order food from outside. Which means we are having home cooked meals more often. Exactly what our parents and our partners always wanted. This means eating healthy and also eating on time.

We spent our childhood with board games, but never got the time to sit and enjoy them when we  grew up. however they have made a grand reentrance into our lives this lockdown. Be it physically playing the game with Our families or virtually with our friends we are enjoying our childhood again.

Further the most amazing and exciting part of of our childhood is back again on TV. Yes the classics of TV are back too. How excited were we when we  heard that Ramayana will start airing again? Doordarshan has been able to to bring the The golden era back for us to enjoy this lockdown. With all our favourite shows back on television, families are spending more time together reliving those good old days.

There has always been so much you wanted to do but never got the time too. It is the time to bring out the artist in you and spend time with all your hobbies you were missing. It is a good way to spend your time and also take care of your mental health. It will also act as an escape from “overthinking”.

You have more time with yourself and your thoughts. This makes the lockdown the perfect for some introspection and stepping out of it a better, more aware person.

Not everything about the novel coronavirus pandemic is abysmal as we can see from the above 6 instances or these positive consequences.

So , Like every other pandemic, this too shall pass, what we need to focus on is that .
what are the positive impact of covid-19  Has brought in India and to the rest of the world.
Because it is very easy see negative consequences first. But these negative thoughts can easily drain you out in this pandemic so we need to focus on the positive side of covid-19, and utilise our time in a productive manner.

Where we can understand ourselves first and later our surroundings.
